What I noticed, first, hefting the novel? Fine binding. Excellent paper. Above average quality printing, from layout to execution. I pulled the dust jacket off, first, and leave it on the bookshelf with the rest of the hardbacks. Just seemed like an exceptional execution of the book-binder’s art and craft.
Personally, I much prefer the digital version of this author’s books, as they are quick to read, and almost — certainly to me — literary candy. Still, as the library didn’t have a copy yet, I picked up the hardback. It’s going to be a “gently used” gift, now.
From New York, the protagonist wings it out to Santa Fe, with a number of female bodies piling up around him — got to make a person wonder.
Then, a plot device I haven’t seen in years, Nazi plunder.
At least two epic twists, and a current events commentary that couldn’t have been more well-timed. If life were only as orderly as fiction.
As always, a well-crafted yarn. Good weekend reading.
