It’s a Netflix Original, Frankie and Grace, with a stunning roster of grey stars. Martin Sheen, Sam Waterston, an aging but still haunting Jane Fonda, and forever brilliant Lily Tomlin.
Is it farce? Satire? Sad commentary on our modern families?
Not quick-smart, but certainly ironic, humorous, with stellar female leads.
It’s fun to binge-watch. Clever, but even more so, is this the future of high quality TV programming?
Simply put, it’s a half-hour sitcom-format show with the premise that two grey and aging lawyers (divorce lawyers at that) decide that they are gay and come out, much to the surprise of the existing families. Sheen and Waterston seem to have chemistry, but Fonda and Tomlin are amazing. Might be something about a generation that I admire, or maybe, there’s some other attraction; we build on the shoulders of previous generations.
After watching about half, I was thrilled.
What makes it a tad more engaging in the half-hour sitcom format, unlike regular TV, there are no breaks, and the half-hour runs 28 minutes.
