Super Seven

Venus enters its “shadow” on September 2, 2018, passing the point at 25 Libra. Venus turns Retrograde at 10 Scorpio, on October 5, 2018. 2:04 PM, according to localized software. Venus turns direct at 25 Libra, on November 16, 2018. 5:51 AM, not to be too detail-oriented. Venus completes this cycle when it gets back to 10 Scorpio on December 16, 2018. 10:03 AM.

Many years distant, there was a band — in Austin — sort of a loose amalgam of borderline musical superstars. Never quite “superstar rockstars,” but then, accomplished, lettered, pedigreed stars, especially in Texas. Band’s name? Or the title of the recording? The “record” with the same name? Los Super Seven.

So when a certain Dr. Woo introduced me to “Super Seven,” we both had an immediate reaction that harkened back to the good, old days in Austin when there was music in the streets, conjunto mixed freely with rock and TexMex was merely a food group. Doug Sahm was still making records, although, even him? He once observed, “Austin’s gotten — have to go to San Antonio to find a good enchilada.”

This is about Venus in apparent retrograde motion. It takes Planet Earth 365 days to orbit the Sun. It takes Venus roughly 260 days to accomplish the same lap around the Sun, so, not unlike Mercury, Venus’s nearest neighbor, Venus appears to move backwards when compared to the rest of the night sky and the usual good order.

Imagine riding in a truck as another vehicle passes in the fast lane, a few MPH quicker. Looks like one is moving backwards while both are hurtling down the freeway. That explains the term “retrograde.”

Super Seven is the name of a certain mineral specimen, comes from (insert location here, Columbia? Transylvania? Arkansas?) N.B.: Brazil. My original exposure to the metaphysical mineral called “Super Seven” was in the back of a truck, a Dr. Woo, “You got to see this stuff,” and from there? The details get frighteningly sketchy.

“You got to see some of this stuff — called Super Seven….”

The mineral’s structure itself looks like a regular chunk of pointed quartz, but the shading varies from deep purple to variations of maroon, obsidian-like in appearance in places, and this material — Super Seven — is now a holy grail of Gem Stone Healers’ collections.

Perhaps five years ago, I started a part-time residency as a featured practitioner at the rock shop in Austin — see listing for details. As such, my long-lost interest in geology was reawakened. Then, too, I get to put a specimen from the showroom on the table when I work. As of late, I tend towards citrine — not because it’s a birthstone, but because it is attractive and also known as, “The Merchant’s Stone.” Said to attract cash. Works for me.

The sample of Super Seven at the rock shop (Nature’s Treasures)? It’s got goethite, cacoxenite, rutilite, lepidocrocite, amethyst, clear quartz, and smoky quartz — all wrapped in one stone.

The first example I saw of “Super Seven” was part of a pendant, and I was drawn to the aura of stone and its setting itself, a simple wire wrap, nestled on some person’s chest. The clump of crystal, we are ‘crystal waving yahoos,’ fairly glowed and pulsed with divergent energies. In the good, old days, it was straight-up magical.

As Venus begins a weirdly timed, but totally not unexpected backward trek through the night sky? What kind of crystal emoluments work?

Super Seven.

All a matter of using what works. “Ugly” is a good clue.

Strong, powerful, pretty in its own right, but — all in the eye of the beholder. Good stuff as Venus turns Retrograde — this Venus pattern bridges energies from two signs, Scorpio and Libra.

The quickest way to understand that is to consider the connection between sex and relationships. I’ve been assured there’s a connection — maybe this retrograde I’ll learn what that is.
