Thy Mother’s Son

Thy Mother’s Son

From Shakespeare’s Henry IV, part 2, act 3, scene 2:

“Thy mother’s son! Like enough, and thy father’s shadow. So the son of the female is the shadow of the male. It is often so indeed, but much of the father’s substance!”

Falstaff, line 54

“So the son of the female is the shadow of the male.”

Sure there’s a deep, psychological message therein.
