Undone

“You take things you don’t control and define them as ‘good’ or ‘bad.’ And so of course when ‘bad’ things happen, or the ‘good’ ones don’t, you blame the gods and feel hatred for the people responsible – or those you decide to make responsible. Much of our bad behavior stems from trying to apply those criteria. If we limited ‘good’ and ‘bad’ to our own actions, we’d have no call to challenge God, or treat other people as enemies.”

Marcus Aurelius Meditations Book VI, chapter 41

I happened across a copy of Marcus Aurelius. Tossed it back into my suitcase. Another volume uncracked by my father, be my first guess.

Another book, foisted by Sister to Mother, and hinted that I might want to look at it? “Mourning: a field guide to crying.”

Oh how quickly we forget? My sister has lost two substantial wagers when I cried at her shows. Nope, tears ain’t a problem. Personally, too, I’m looking forward to the upcoming hurricane, c.f. hurricane supplies – already covered.
