One more fishing image as it looks unlikely that I’ll get a chance to fish again soon. Buddy took this, I’m not sure if it was his camera or mine, or phone, or whatever. I liked it because that was another one of those big reds that felt like a huge fish.
The fish were certainly not undersized, easily going to twenty-two or even twenty-four inches. The ferocity of the attack, the feeding-frenzy like attitude, more than one fish pulled the boat to a new position. The tawny, bronze-back fighters were lean, trim, and hungry, full of energy. A recent “cold” front pushed the fish from the back “lakes” towards the edge of the bay.
The rod bent over like that, and I picked the rod up at the other end of the boat, so I’d been following that guy around. The fish makes a break for it, and suddenly clears 30 or 40 yards in the water, line paying out, drag starting to heat up as the friction spins and spins.
I kept thinking one of those was going to go over 40 inches. Not a one. Felt like it, though, and look at the bent rod.
Great picture. I’m keeping this one for my wallpaper collection.
