The Road to Austin:
Interstate 35, up from San Antonio, it originally gave me the idea — and sign — to use for the side project, and as the highway skirts along the edge of the hills, it’s easy to see the history.

In San Marcos, the highway rolls over two “rivers,” which are more like streams. The map, I swiped from an e-mail, shows where all the rivers drain into the mighty Mississippi. None of the Central Texas Highland Streams hit the mighty muddy river. We’re on our own.

Makes for lush, but slightly unpredictable and quite arable countryside.
