At the Movies: Sicaro

At the Movies: Sicaro

Starring, El Paso, the borderlands – my second home. Brutal story, with stellar performances by several actors, and yet, subtle with its perceived message.

The background, the sprawling suburbs in the Southwest American desert. Homes that back up to dry arroyos, with flyover film establishing a love of the area.

I’ve worked across the river from Ciudad Juarez for more than 20 years. The violence, apparent corruption, the apparent squalor of the barrios, the sights, the sounds.

Odd, in all my years, all that time in the area, I never crowd the bridge.

Rather satisfying film, if graphic and grisly, with almost over-the-top violence. How real is it?
