Somebody gave me a “Border’s Books” gift card for Xmas. Book gift cards, along with a certain international chain of coffee shops’ gift cards are just the best. And iTunes’ cards. Those are fun, too. I couldn’t find my old text of Faulkner’s As I Lay Dying, so I used that gift card, in part, to get a nice, new, “corrected text,” hardback. I’ll miss the notes I had in the old version.
I read this the first time, long after college, and I thought it was the most accessible of Faulkner’s work. William Faulkner, one of the great American novelists from the last century, a true Gothic Southern writer.
Since Cormac McCarthy has gone up in literary value, I would expect similar value to be attached to Faulkner’s work.
