Long Distance Runaround

Yes You Tube.

“Think of yourself as dead. You have lived your life. Now take what is left and live it properly.”
Marcus Aurelius Meditations, Book VII, v. 56.

That and nickel will get you a cup of coffee. That and a quarter will get you a cup of coffee. That and $2.19 will get you a cup of coffee – airport prices.

Airports carry a kind sadness as travel is tertiary in its association, however fleeting, with death. Wondering if it’s the last time I see my father alive. Doubtful. He was okay when he wheeled into the hospital, fine before surgery, and wondering what went wrong when he woke up with a tube down his throat, unable to speak.

I figure it’s one of those 30 days in the hospital type of visits. Happen to old people. Anyone with an aging parent is more than passing familiar with the experience.

“Mom, that’s the hard way, there is an easier way.”

“Well, I learned from your father,” she said.

That’s an interesting quotation from Aurelius. Which translation do you read/cite?

Yeah, that’s a pocket version I carry in my travel gear. But I’ve got two different versions here. Plus the older ones, too. Those are at home, where I’m not.
