Austin Garage Sales & free stuff

One more Austin Garage Sale:

Always nice, see, I’m just doing this for a friend, but it’s always nice, early on, I get that single image that sets the tone.

It was a hispanic couple, in a big diesel Ford 250, truck idling curbside in the freezing morning light. Sun had barely crested the horizon. I watched as he crawled down from the cab, little short, round guy, kind of merry, swallowed whole in a big camo jacket with a fur-lined hood. Dusty jeans and sturdy work boots.

His “Novia” followed from around the corner, she was as round as he was, matching camo jacket but she was moving on two legs in pink, furry, flannel pajama bottoms – on her feet were floppy-eared bunny slippers.

Some sights just make Austin, well, Austin.

Drive-by:
Austin City Bus – Cap Metro – rolls up. Stops. Door opens.

“Hey! Is that a VCR?”
“Sure.”
“Does it work?”
“Sure.”
“My name’s Ben, I’ll be back after my shift, hold it for me!”
“Sure.”

Drive-by shoppers for the garage sale. Threw in a few tapes, too. I think one was “Flashdance.”
