The image is from a place that used to be called “Water Street,” but it’s not called that anymore. Restaurant. Good food. Menu hasn’t changed, much. I used to frequent when happy hour was a wedge salad, dozen or two of oyster on the half shell at a special reduced price, and the ubiquitous endless bucket of ice tea.
The image gave me an idea, though, and fits with another observation. The frequent beverage (coffee gold card) at one place nets me a 10% discount.
Texas Sales Tax – there is no state income tax – but Texas Sales Tax is around 8%. In Austin, I collect and pay 8.25%, of which, if I recall rightly, is mostly state with a single percent to Austin mass transit or something. Or a percent of a percent. I can’t recall. I file yearly.
But no income tax.
Anyway, discount with cash. There should be one. That works for me. The discount works out to be about the same as tax.
