Sleep is Life

It’s still a favorite image, caught not once but a second time. The way the “open” sign is offset, and not in a color that compliments the rest of the scene, a slight visual discomfiture, and the most intriguing of tag lines, “sleep is life.” But of course it is! You sell mattresses for sleeping on!

The heavy metal mesh over the window, a grainy, gritty essence to the scene, inner-city grime, pretty sure it was a warm day in South Texas.

In line with that store, there’s a body shop and garage, then an early 1930’s deco gas station that’s now some kind of pentecostal lighthouse barrio outreach church.
