The image is a piece of sidewalk. The single word: locate. It’s no big deal, really. It’s just a word painted on the sidewalk, and in all likelihood, it’s a utility worker’s mark.
Dig here. Don’t dig here. Something.
Spawned two ideas, first, look at the number, post number 855, the arbitrary posting number, low, compared with more current numbers now in the 8K range, but also indicative that the original posts more than two years old. Scheduled it some time back as a filler post, and it didn’t get used, kept getting bumped, until now. Then.
I noticed a similar sign, spray painted on an Austin street.
Texas Star.
No clue. Not a one.

Peterbilt. Yup. Drove a rig built by Peterbilt in one of my previous livelihoods. Then one day I was talking with the guys and one of them mentioned being a school bus driver. “They unload themselves, you know.” And the rest is another story. I’ve recruited a few UPS drivers to school bus driving with that line. Appealing after hours of shifting boxes, carrying boxes, getting in and out of vehicle, etc.: Drive, open door, they get on and sit down, close door, drive. In the afternoon, the reverse. Piece of cake compared to trucking. Pays well, too.
The thing that struck me about the LOCATE marker was that the writer thereof knows how to write. Letters are all caps, evenly spaced, clear. Unusual for most service workers. I would posit a certain level of intelligence. Just sayin’.
