After reading the inscription, I am once again glad that I turned down the DAR invitation to join them. Every time someone mentions “tea party,” I cringe. Anyway, I have both Whigs and Tories in my ancestry, so it would be at least partly a fraud, not to mention my current day liberal bent.
I grew up in conservative Connecticut; my family always registered as “Independent.” I can remember the day that I declared I was a Democrat (though still too young to vote). Quelle horreur! Been a rebel ever since.
