Political Rant

An editor’s list of common mistakes, and near the end, one rattled me. I looked up, there’s fairly recent copy of Eliot’s “The Waste Land,” and for the life of me, I’m sure, I had one professor, entrenched and tenured, who insisted, it was “The Wasteland.” Over and over.

It’s like arguing with arch-conservative Republicans, sooner or later, you have to realize they like the strife.

What? It’s not “The Waist Land” or “Waistland”? And if poetry is meant to be a semi-oral form of writing, who cares? I’ve given up on accuracy; all I ask is that I can puzzle out the message.

Anyway, the list you linked to was for “good prose” not poetry.
