Holden Courts
Part of El Paso feels like New Mexico. Part of New Mexico is called, “Little Texas.” Part of my personal history revolves around bits of New Mexico. Then, there’s the disconnect when the old hippies, and less-than-gracefully aged gather in one spot or another.
Holden Court, still an active rental, by the week or month, from the looks of it, is on a side street in Truth or Consequences, NM. I rolled to a stop, hopped out of the rent car, grabbed an image, then looked down. Another click of the camera. WPA – 1938 … History, right under foot.
I still was greatly amused by the name, “Holden Courts.” I’m sure it was thusly intended.
My upbringing learned me a thing a two about “holdin’ forth,” and I suspect that Holden Courts is much the same thing. While I’ve not stayed at this one, specifically, I’ve stayed in similar places — not without charm — and eccentricities.
I, too, have stayed in interesting places, off the beaten path, much more memorable than the modern stainless steel ones.
