El Mundo

El Mundo

The card is from the Spanish-langage card set, “Lotteria,” and this one? It’s El Mundo, the World. Looks like the world rests on some dude’s back, with the Federalists State of Mexico highlighted.

It’s part of series I collected, over time, as I’ve long been fascinated with cards, usually, Tarot Cards.

I’ve been known to be a reader of such, along with a reader of the night sky.

The symbolism of the Tarot spoke to me, first, as a shorthand verison of how to deal with archetypal energies. The good, the bad, the ugly, and the beautiful. I recall one deck, I no longer even own that deck, but it had a volutpous, gorgrous, full-figured blonde-goddess, right out of some kind of Teutonic Mythology, as one figure on a card. Always loved her. Almost worshipped that divines femine form.

So the slightly askew symbolism on the Mexican Lotteria cards has always intrigued me. I’ve seen them as tattoos, logos, and pop art. It’s a deeply held cultural thing.

I’m merely an itinerant observer, casually passing through. What I don’t understand, fully, that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate it. A lyrical refrain?

There’s a hot wind on my shoulder
And the touch of a world that is older…
