Bob Wills is still the king

Bob Wills is still the king

Early morning ear-worm. Woke up with it. Hummed it all morning, the other day.

Bob Wills is still the king

I grew up on music that we called Western swing
It don’t matter who’s in Austin, Bob Wills is still the king

Old Waylon tune. Waylon Jennings? Outlaw?

Rolling Stones modified it? Been done by many other bands, but Waylon’s iconic visage and voice does it best?

I can still hear that 4/4 beat, simple, driving rhythm —

Because, at one point in my life, I enthralled with Bob Wills, Texas Playboys, and Western Swing because it rocked.

In the words of another critically-acclaimed Texas troubadour?

“That chick signing is bad–ass rockin’…”

(from Ray Wylie’s Ruffian’s Misfortune.)

Bob Wills is still the king

I grew up on music that we called Western swing
It don’t matter who’s in Austin, Bob Wills is still the king

Think that explains it all, right?
