Hush Money – T. E. Woods

Hard — for me — to imagine the rust belt of America, or the “mid-west” as a suitable setting for death, dismemberment, murder, and mayhem. However, I know, one writes what one knows.

Previously, The Fixer series.

On the heels of The Fixer series comes the next group from the same author. Fairly taut prose, and not too much style to interfere with the substance.

“T.E. Woods” — from what I scoured briefly on the web, seems to be a practicing psychologist — or something. While her Fixer series was crime with a cop backdrop, this one, at first? Seems a little different. As an author, she’s getting her legs and the psychological motivations are more clearly drawn with deeper backstory. Kind of more interesting to me.

Good twist, more tightly plotted than before. Strong voice, and clean prose.

Thriller with a strong female lead. The ending, not without some clues, but the ending, a little deus ex machina, but can’t say, “No one saw that coming.”

First in what promises to be a series.
