Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving

Now more than ever, the quaint tradition of Arlo Guthrie’s classic?

Sing along if you know the tune, “You can get anything you want, at Alice’s Restaurant…”

It was from a time of protest, it was about a protest, and it signified the way music, to a lesser extent, the arts in general, can have an impact.

In an obvious single digit salute to the music industries, and conventional wisdom, the tune runs for 20 minutes or more, in its live version.

When I was in school, one almost dead radio station would play the song, every Thanksgiving, trying to time it for just before noon, T-Day. I would guess, the drive to the old family homestead, to partake in ritual excess consumption.

Driving up to Austin, each year for the last dozen or so? I just think that’s the correct song to play.
