Ancient Shores
Whenever I use the term “pulp,” in reference to fiction, or fictive derivative narratives? It’s a term of endearment. A singular phrase that mean fondness, and usually appreciation. Previously, I mentioned Stuart Woods as a an excellent example of a serial author that I genuinely enjoy.
In part the term “pulp” refers to the wood-chip rag-paper of the old, cheap magazines that had serialized adventure stories with lurid covers. The magazines would feature scantily clad space-women or aliens of surprisingly attractive if sexist, characteristics. It’s a whole genre unto itself. Space Opera was born of this genre.
The list goes on.
From the long-standing reading-lists I subscribe to? Ancient Shores fell out, and I caught it at the perfect time.
While I missed this novel the first time, with a publication date as far back as 25 years, even with some dated references, it holds up, perhaps a harbinger for our own future.
