Righteous Prey

Righteous Prey

Hotly anticipated from several months back, when I first noticed the bookstore announcements.

Seemed like a long wait.

“At one o’clock that morning, he’d punched the computer key that would send the manuscript to New York, then lay awake for two hours assailed by thoughts of writerly inadequacy.” Page 26.

Virgil Flowers, you may only be a character, but you’re one of us.

“A clusterfuck does have one fine and desirable characteristic,” St. Vincent said. Virgil: “What’s that?” “Spreads the blame around if you don’t catch anyone,” St. Vincent said. Everyone within earshot looked over at St. Vincent and nodded. Page 62.

Solid proof that the author has a command of what happens in the chain of command.

Ripping right along, kind of a fun ride with enough creepy murder and mayhem to make it morbidly interesting? There’s a certain crispness to the author’s style that I like. Plus funny author inside jokes about publishing.

Balanced, nuanced, and yet, a full-tilt ride.

Little side trip with Davenport’s daughter, in The Investigator. Previous Prey?
