Further thoughts
Buying Xmas gifts, “One for them, one for me, one for them…” (logical procession), at a primo, premier chocolate place, I got caught up in a discussion about the chemical structure of the active ingredients in coffee and chocolate, a molecule with a leg on it, I think it’s a carbon ring, but I don’t recall. Still, the active ingredient in cacao is an alkaloid similar to caffeine, which is the active ingredient in coffee. The structure and the way the alkaloid interacts with the human body, though, that’s what is different. Caffeine has a much sharper, more pronounced “crash” than theobromine. Most commercial chocolate, though, has a ton of refined sugar, which is a different issue.
When asked, no, I’m not a chemist, nor am I a professor, teacher, or physicist. Just an astrologer. I learned about this by reading an idea in a book of fiction, a future histories series, and then looking up data myself. I’d call it “research,” but cribbing notes from pieces online is more like a broadening of possible knowledge — not peer-reviewed research.
Further thoughts
There was passage in an older Science Fiction bit of dystopia, and a sentient machine intelligence character, left to linger in an older digital format, “html – vector space.” Might have that wrong, and I can’t be half-arsed to search through two approximate collections to find the passage. I just recall the imagery.
Made me think, though, about future-proofing my own works. I was future-proofing, when I started out.
I’ll be left in faded, “html – vector space.”
Further thoughts
I realized, as an addendum, further thoughts?
Some bits and pieces have not aged well. There is the notion of the language, and its usage, how that’s changed. But no, that’s not it.
I was looking at a post that was a decade old, and it was amusing, at best, little stilted, and the pointers? The Amazon link for my own books, the amazon and apple affiliate links? While they showed up nicely in the rough draft version, clearly the links were no longer supported.
The linking format and the following potential commission clicks?
From a test click, the amazon affiliates worked to land on the right stuff, but I don’t think I got a commission — and the older apple links just spin off into a dreaded 404 space.
Further thoughts
Wholesale, if there was an easy way to correct the older links, I think I would, but individually it might be too much.
One of the nicer points, I figured out, almost by happenstance?
Some of the original coding I did, way back when, think, this stretches to 1999 — still works.
Exact phrase?
1999/xhtml
That’s the structure I was aiming for, way back when, something that would last.
Some of the knowledge is protected, what I’m looking for is a structure that will withstand the test of time.
Further thoughts
My insights, and whatever? A great deal comes from merely being intellectually curious and happening upon a challenging idea, not being afraid to hop down a rabbit’s hole of inter-connected thoughts, patterns, and spurious “research,” such as it is — or isn’t.
Get that from reading books and stuff.
Why I want to future-proof my material.
Further thoughts?
Mercury is retrograde.
