The Peripheral on TV

The Peripheral on TV

It’s a William Gibson show, based on his novel, The Peripheral. It was a tough read, the first time, since there were so many moving parts, but when the original TV trailer showed up for the streaming a series, now on Amazon?

I’m guessing that I’ve read or reread this novel two maybe three times.

The streaming series? There’s a very dark setting, neo-noir, or future-noir, I suppose, due to the lighting, and the story telling, it’s not how I remembered exactly from the novel, but enough adds up for me to follow.

Continuing down the side of that thought, I’ve long since recognized and admitted that William Gibson’s Neuromancer is a classic. Think I’ve reread it a few times.

The Peripheral

There was an actor — playing Lowbeer — and I kept thinking, “I’ve seen her someplace before…”

Quick search turns up she’s a transgender activist, and her command, on screen, sold me. A dollop of background, and then I had to stop and think why I admired her even more, understanding that she overcame a number of obstacles that people like me (straight, white) just don’t have.

Started as a book, which leads me to the streaming series, and that drops me off into a dream-like fugue state where I’m considering why I would admire some who took a far more arduous path than my own. Respect, right?

It backwoods, and future tech, all in one, with a dose of time travel, and who knows what else. Thoroughly enjoyed the book several times, and the movie-series-streamer thing is equal in form, and possibly more powerful in execution.

Some would say a dead-ringer.
