“… Earth’s offspring back to earth
But all that’s born of heaven
To heaven returns again.”
- Marcus Aurelius

Meant to use this in my horoscopes, but I ran into recent events, and this image presented such a good metaphor. The Port A beachfront, just south of downtown? Early morning, and it looks like it was left over from the previous evening, never quite erased by low tide.
Two elements I wanted to work with, earth, the sand, and water, the sea, but also the way a single footprint can change the contour of the beach itself.
Stand in one place and let the waves wash over a stationary foot. The receding waters carry sand away, and the shape of the waterfront, the line where the waves meet the land is changed.

The castle is made of sand, and while it withstood the overnight low tide? As the day wears on, and the pull of the moon changes? That gentle, but persistent, swell of waves erased any sign of the castle.

Dust unto dust; and all that from ether
Grows, speeds swiftly back again heavenward;”
