Rock Shop Tenure
My highly esteemed if somewhat pedantic buddies in academia? Their goals were always “tenure.”
Tenure implied one could walk down the middle of the academic avenue, and commit atrocious crimes, and not be severely reprimanded. Like an appointment, if not for life, at least with some serious long-term leeway and latitudes. Bonus: there was a sabbatical scheduled every seventh year, take time to go do something fun, research, or write a book. Or, to me, research and writing a book would be fun.
My records are tenuous, at best, but looks like it was Tuesday, June 18, 2013 for my first Tuesday gig at the rock shop in Austin.
Rock Shop Tenure
The only pieces of this adventure of a career that’s lasted longer? The Austin (area) metaphysical expo, which has operated under numerous names with various owners and promoters, but that’s where I started and did that for 25+ years. I worked with two promoters in El Paso for near 20 years, same name, different people.
25, near 30 years in Austin, over 20 in El Paso, and now, “10 Years” at the rock shop. That’s ten year.
The corona got the El Paso shows, and pretty much ran me off from Austin’s bigger gigs. Love the people, but the two-day grind is a bit much for my old bones. But those stray Tuesday afternoons?
