True History

True History

Picked up from the daily feeds, a video application for a job.

Reminded me. Reminded me of time when I applied to work in a bookstore, and me, at the time, with a freshly-minted literature degree, and some gradual school behind me, I filled out an application, and the company, it was a liberal, Texas-only independent corporation at the time, the supervisor asked for a quick letter.

In what would become my inimitable style, I recall, it was “I just want a paycheck. Don’t want move up in management; don’t want your job, just looking for a paycheck,” or something along those lines.

I was hired, and I worked a few shifts before summarily walking out for better work as an astrologer. I was told that the letter was passed around in the break room as a source of amusement.

Formative events, and little clues along the way.
