Book V No. 37
Marcus Aurelius, a frequent source for me?
I circled back to a recent translation:
“Once I was the luckiest of men, lacking nothing. But what does it mean to have good luck and to lack nothing? It means to have good moods, good desires, and good behaviors.”
I still like the newer version:
“I was once fortunate man but at some point fortune abandoned me.
But good fortune is what you make for yourself.
Good fortune: good character, good intentions, and good actions.”
Of note? That is “fortune,” not the odd god Fortuna.
