The Pride of Cucamonga
“If all the year were playing holidays,
To sport would be as tedious as to work;”
Henry, Prince of Wales in Shakespeare’s 1 HENRY 4 (I.ii.72)
One day in Boston. About all there is.
• Pride of Cucamonga – Grateful Dead – Live from the Mars Hotel
The last time I was in Boston, I picked up a copy of a hitherto unknown to me book by Annie Lamott, Good Writing (coauthored). East Coast shuffle to get to Boston meant time to saw my way through much of the book itself. Love it, but then, a quick web search about the title and lyrics of the song? That echoed back to Annie Lamott.
I’m on the edge of an empty highway
Howlin’ at the blood on the moon
A diesel Mack truck rollin’ down my way
I can’t hit that border too soon
The connection to the Grateful Dead? Not sure I can connect those dots.
