Stardust Image

Stardust Motel

Stardust Motel

Stardust Motel

The image itself is from just outside the Marfa City Limits. Literally, a town with a population of less than 3,000, and anyone out there is free to pitch in with actual numbers.

The original image was a disposable camera, developed onto a CD, and earned its way into my recurrent symbols. I’ve written about portions about it before, the basic idea is that there’s just a sign, nothing more.

The symbolism from the sign should be evident, right? As an astrology writer, I’d expect to play with something called Stardust Motel. I’ve got another image, that of the Astro Motel, Waco (Texas).

The first time, I was in car rented in Midland/Odessa and headed towards Valentine (TX). Population is still listed as 217, more than a decade later.

I’ve loved the image, last time I was out there, last summer, the sign was still there. In my personal mythology, it is about my version of astrology, combines several schools of thought, with a sprinkling of metaphysical training.

I just like the image. Indicates related astrology material.

You know, after all my dissing comments about Texas, I’ve seen some beautiful photos and talked to people who love the state. Maybe I should get off my high horse and visit there some day. After all, Los Angeles isn’t all Hollywood and plastic smiles, either, but you’d never know it unless you came here and visited for a spell.

It’s about a sense of place. Sister has that sense about the Upper Left Coast, Seattle, Portland, and mostly East Bay (SF), &c.
