It’s surprisingly easy to shoot rabbits with a bow and arrow. The stupid timid things freeze, and if you’re quiet, stealthy even, you can bag a stewpot’s worth in a couple of hours early in the morning. I was pretty squeamish about killing them (usually they were still kicking) and then dressing them out, (Sarah Palin I am not), but they made a nice addition to the family larder when money was hard to come by. We had 50 acres–lots of rabbits, who were pests because they would try to eat my garden.
