“Look with thine ears; see how yond justice rails upon yond simple thief.”
- King Lear (IV.vi.129)
Simplest of Guidelines
There’s an evolving piece of web advice I’ve been doling out for the past half-dozen years, maybe longer.
“If I had to do it all over again?”
The simplest of guidelines still holds , and this is a “Learn from my mistakes” category.
Domain name, simple, with a business card holder in place, contact, social media, 50 word bio, maybe an image.
As the folks I normally deal with are readers, writers, intuitive, creatives, and similar ilk? The job definitions change; the name remains the same.
Instead of a cute name? Or company name? Just my name. I got lucky, as there is really only one Kramer Wetzel, which makes this that much easier for me.
When I first launched, it was a back server at the university, then a long URL that ended in three letters, FGS for Fishing Guide to the Stars. That was then, this is now.
astrofish.net popped out in 1998, and the URL has remained constant ever since. In its current iteration, unless the blog is off on a different server with a different IP address, then the trick is to hang a blog off to one side. Two sides of the same coin of the realm to conflate metaphors.
Previously alluded to, the weekly astrological missive is my main “thing,” and the blog is the sideshow. Or some kind of a show. Since the dollars don’t support separate sites and separate servers? Just back to a blog motor off to one side, and I think I’ll be able to streamline that further in the coming years.
All about simplicity, and making this easiest for me.
