Apple Flash Drive

Apple Flash Drive

OS X LionSome years back, with one Apple OS X upgrade, the emergency option was a flash drive. I never used it. Check the image, I kept it around for years, and I’m guessing close to a decade old, now.

Think that must’ve been one of the first system upgrades that was strictly online, download and go, rather than order a CD/DVD.

As more an academic venture, I spent a portion of an afternoon — last time Mercury was Retrograde — figuring out how to create an emergency USB drive. Download the installer, format a flash drive, reboot, install on the spare drive, and it wasn’t as easy as I recall.

An older laptop resurfaced, spent a year or more in someone’s storage unit, I think. In order to erase the PowerBook Pro? I needed a flash drive.

I dug around, and that old Apple Flash Drive worked.

Old, dead tech that isn’t quite so dead.
