Reel Em Inn

Reel Em Inn

Refurbished motel and fishing lodge, Reel Em Inn? Part of the package included a Nespresso machine in the room, with some coffee pods.

Previously, I’ve used K-Cups, and my experience in that the K-Cups are more universal while some of the coffee tastes “stale,” whereas the Nespresso was perfectly pulled, but too hard to find the pods.

Either K-Cups or Nespresso pods are an ecological nightmare, but then, so is coffee, in retrospect, so, doesn’t matter as much. Besides, I use the single-serve coffee makers so infrequently that the sustained waste I generate is negligible.

Still, of got me wondering, and a sales item popped through in the feeds, a single-cup machine. At 500 watts, it was the lowest wattage I’ve seen thus far.

Cafe Bustelo was one traveling solution. But towards other ends, like, at home, what works best?

Thus far, for a single cup, I like a simple pour-over. Though I have fancy ceramic funnels, I found that a plastic Melitta-brand funnel works best, as there is significantly less heat lost. Supposedly, a high borosilicate glass is best, but that seems a tad inconvenient.

The other problem with the Nespresso machine? No way to just make a quick cup of hot water. Either there was a pod or nothing would happen. I suppose it is idiot-proof.

To me, the Nespresso tasted better, but seems much less available. One reason the K-Cups might taste stale to me? I bought a box, one spring, for a summer fishing trip, and then, didn’t use them until the following spring. While in theory, the sealed ground coffee stays fresh? Maybe not.

For now, though the single pour-over is quicker, easier, and makes great compost. One cousin uses composting K-Cups, so there is that.

Got images of the eclipse, just no pictures of fish. Phone died, and I left it in the charger.
