The Faculty Lounge

The Faculty Lounge

“Verisimilitude” is defined as “feeling true.” The semblance of truth, in literature, as I understand it. From the start, one, the author taught/teaches English in a school in Texas. The novel is set at a high school in the Houston (TX) area. The author is also an accomplished YA author, with novels and at least one movie to her credit. Still teaching language? The set-up, it certainly feels real.

The Faculty Lounge

Some point maybe around halfway through the novel, I had looked up the author’s website, followed her on various social media platforms, and mentally composed a love letter. The location is essentially a big public high school in Houston, and while I’m not from Houston, I have been through there a time or two for shows and games. Then there’s the shared history with the characters, the bands, the placements, the location, just so effectively wrought for me, flawed, human characters I cared deeply about.

The Faculty Lounge

Tugged at my jaundiced, burnt heartstrings. Brought back deep memories from various high schools. Reminded me of old teachers, the joy, and what they lived for.

Too bad it’s fiction, imagine a world where characters do the right thing without a prompt.
