Leitmotif

Leitmotif

The term is from heavy German opera. Leitmotif is usually a recurring musical statement, as an underlying theme. Like a theme, only in the Wagnerian opera, it is also tied to a specific character. Straying from the symphonic sounds, the opening bars to the theme song from the movie “Jaws,” it has a similar, used to be chilling, effect. Foreboding, in essence.

Playing with a single tortilla chip, a triangle shape, pushing it around in some refried beans, on a plate of TexMex, I vocalized the “Jaws” opening musical refrain. That’s a Leitmotif — as an example.

MercRX Mercury is retrograde every few months. Every couple of months, I find myself tasked with trying to find a way to best use the energies, and how to examine what it is that is happening, and then, how to move forward under this much-maligned and vilified influence.

There’s coffee, prayer, medication. Exercise, intentions, and outcomes. False starts, real endings, and more. Much more.

Mercury is retrograde from June 30 to July 23, from 26° to 15° Cancer, inclusive.

The theme song? I don’t have one, not just yet, but this is about false starts, hard stops, and what lies in between. Therein is both the magic and mystery of Mercury in apparent retrograde motion.
