Host: Peace, I say! Hear mine host of the Garter. Am I politic? Am I subtle? Am I a Machiavel? Shall I lose my doctor? No, he gives me the potions and the motions. Shall I lose my parson? My priest? My Sir Hugh? No, he gives me the proverbs and the no-verbs. Give me thy hand, terrestial; so. Give me thy hand, celestial; so. Boys of art, I have deceiv’d you both; I have directed you to wrong places. Your hearts are mighty, your skins are whole, and let burnt sack be the issue. Come, lay their swords to pawn. Follow me, lads of peace; follow, follow, follow.
Exit.

Libra
I pulled out of Palmer Auditorium, heading west on Riverside, no Barton Springs, and then, turned right onto Lamar. Most of the area is unrecognizable to me, from my previous decades on foot in old South Austin. Peter Pan Golf, the train overpass, and not much else is the same. At the time, I was headed to the old rock shop location, thinking of missing most of the traffic and winding up north on Lamar until 38th Street, then over to the shop. I got stuck trying to remember, it was a Sunday morning, more than 40 years in the past, and I was riding a motorcycle on the same route, booming up Lamar like that, then headed out on adventures. Because the recollection is so clear, and specific, a Sunday morning some years distant? Leaning to the left and right, weaving up the narrow pavement towards the unknown? I have to wonder if I knew I would be back to haunt those selfsame streets decades later? It’s a rather specific memory, too, a certain Sunday morning, out for a ride, a chance to stretch my legs, an excuse to zoom around a bucolic Austin. When a memory comes unseated in our Libra mind? Look at it. Consider it. Happy Libra birthday.
Scorpio
I got started on a brand of river sandal back when I was living in the middle of the desert. Hot and sunny, maybe 10 or months out of the year? Sandals were the best idea, and then, the old Colorado River guides came up with a design that was a secure flip-flop. From that, I graduated to locally-made sandals. Loved them for their reusable, renewable style, and extra-lightweight design, a true minimalist. The problem?
As I’ve aged, so have my feet, and the leather top sole on the one brand wears thin from my calloused heels. So I’m back to a sport sandal that is American-made, and the sandals can be re-soled, always a plus. What I’ve done is adapt, in the smallest way possible, to an acceptable, ergonomic, clearly environmentally safe, and most important, reusable style of footwear. It’s about transitions, gradual, over the years, and moving in a systemic way to achieve a particular goal. Slow, steady, assured, that’s what works for this week’s Scorpio. Slow. Steady. Assured. Be willing to make corrections as need be, too. Rather, call them adjustments.
Sagittarius
There are some great classics in the canons of Western Literature that I’ve been assured I should read. Great works. Masterpieces of literature. I’ve tried, and there are a few that I’ve never made it through, and some, I fail to see why it is such a masterpiece, as the story, the plot, the details, the style, something did the opposite of attract me. It served as a rejection, of sorts. Didn’t land right within my mind. Part of this could be me. I’m the cranky old man, now. I’m not going to spend time reading something I don’t find engaging, enthralling, challenging, or, at the very least, highly entertaining. The digital libraries have helped immensely, and I’ve noted this before, the ability to just forget to read a book, and it goes way after two weeks, checking itself back in, no late fees or fines. It’s about beginnings and endings, and what attracts our attention. If it grabs you? Recall, one person’s trash is another person’s treasure, and it might be a treasure for our Sagittarius selves.
Capricorn
Over the years, I’ve belabored a point about the nature of this work. I landed on an expression, “Oracular Astrology,” and just kind of stuck with that. Myth, myth-making, and metaphor, those are the tools. While I’ve used this over the years, with varying degrees of efficacy, what Capricorn has in front of its variegated selves? It’s a matter of using a form that makes the most sense to nominally realistic Capricorn. Normally, based in reality, and normally, one who would eschew the use of high-blown, high-falutin’ language that might appear to make no sense? Myth, popular myth-making, and metaphor helps. It’s a matter of speaking your own truth, but doing so in way that might only make sense to your Capricorn self.
Another format, might be worth a try?
“That is so very interesting.”
Aquarius
Word for the weeks ahead? “Proximity.” Could also be “approximate,” but personally, I prefer “proximity.” It’s about close, near, not too far away, but then, not too present, either. The point of what is happening in the neighborhood is what’s important. I like the idea of of the term, “in the neighborhood,” as it implies, around here, but maybe not right in our Aquarius laps, but near enough to be of interest. Not so close that it is worrisome, but close enough to matter. It’s about near, but not too near. It’s within range, but not on the target. This kind of meaning can easily vary from individual to individual, so the term itself is approximate, but this is about being in the area of, near enough to the source to feel the heat, or the cold, but not so close that it gets you. This term applies for the foreseeable future in Aquarius, and it’s the expression I like best? “Proximity.” Adjust as need be to answer the questions.
Pisces
The great pandemic of 2020 taught us all a few lessons. For most of the civilized world, such as it is, we discovered we could live in relative isolation as long as there were connecting fibers of the internets to keep us stitched up as a whole. Some layer, and level of connection to feel attached to a greater consciousness, even if we were not supposed to interact with other humans, face-to-face. Also learned how many face-to-face meetings could be handled as a simple phone call or even as just an e-mail. (Please don’t text me.) That kind of connection, not always the best, but something? That kind of connection is what we need. Doesn’t have to be in your face, and doesn’t have to be so close you can feel the heat of the other person’s body, I means, it’s nice and all, but for this next few weeks? Electronic connection, or virtual contact, or whatever, is all that is needed. Or desired.
What works best for your Pisces self?
Aries
Privately, I often lament the years gone by, and how, at one point in my life, I felt incredibly productive. Looking back, the output wasn’t much different from what I do now, but the youthful vigor that infused my canon of work was there, and I lack that insouciant impertinence of younger years. I can still be rude, offensive, and off-putting, but at least I’m more polished about it. For Aries? The insouciant impertinence of youth is slipping by. That means, under the light of the Full Moon, be just as rash as always, but temper that with a more adult, adult-like, or adult-adjacent, understanding of how to craft that message. It’s about packaging and how that material is delivered. I didn’t say lose the innocence or impertinence, just wrap it up better.
Taurus
Couple of terms come to mind, and the definition? “I,” as in “me,” as in just that individual, the one speaking, or the one listening, and then there’s “us.” “Us” refers to a collective, a conglomerate, a congregation of sorts, not to be too ecclesiastical about it. This is a time to think about the “us” version rather than the “I” scenario. Simple enough idea, but a little more difficult to interpret this in the real world. One example? I used to bring a bag of tacos to work with me. None for me, all for the other employees. That’s an almost trite example, and one I quit doing because the change in locations, plus a number of people grumbled about free food. But I tried. Something for the collective rather than something for the individual, and herein is the problem, too, I expected accolades and acknowledgements for my good deeds.
Remember: no good deed goes unpunished.
Gemini
Because this is so totally opposite from what you normally do? How you like to behave, what’s on the front of your copious Gemini brain? That makes this doubly hard. However, as the Sign of the Twins, double trouble is your thing, right? The notion is that Mr. Mercury, your planet of origin, and the source of your many skill-sets? Mr. Mercury is in Scorpio, and that means we be quiet. The a moment to think before opening your mouth. Look: I’m not one to talk, I open my mouth without thinking, and then, I’m just as surprised as the next person what comes out. While that might work, on most occasions, this is a period of time when when it might not be in your own, enlightened Gemini best interest to start talking without a scripted response in mind.
Plan.
Practice, then preach.
Cancer
Quick idea, write down three impossible goals. Go big on the ideas. Make this something you don’t think you can do, but what the heck, give us a “blue sky” scenario. Wish list, dreams, hopes, goals that seem well nigh on impossible, but hey, “It could happen,” you know? We can come back and revisit these goals, these dreams, hopes, and fears in the near future. But to get started? Get three ideas down on paper, however that shows up for your moon child, Cancer self. Three ideas, goals, dream, hopes, whatever, down on paper. List, bullet points, or just a sketch, but get it down for yourself to see.
The Leo
I’ve encountered this in a variety of guises. It can be as long as a 3-day silent retreat, no talking for three days, no electronics, just silent meditation, and journaling, as need be, but mostly, just silent contemplation. No talking, not really any human interaction, for 72 hours. That’s one version. One place I know, a zen center offers the retreat. There’s also monastery in northern New Mexico that offers one, as well, same kind of thing, silent retreat, only the concentration is prayer instead of meditation. Same difference, really. But this breaks down even further, from long, monk-like periods of silence, to my usual ten-minute meditation, to a quick way to turn events around? “No, really, it only takes 20 seconds, man! I promise!” In that 20 seconds, a good Leo can take between one and three breaths, long enough to get centered. This next few days, this week, this full moon, and the days beyond? Centered and calm Leo is the clue. How to get there? Somewhere between that 20 seconds of breath work and a full week-long silent retreat for prayer and meditation? What works individually is different, but collectively, what works is that pause, however long it might be.

Virgo
To me, a car is an appliance. Long-gone are the days when vehicles had soul, when there was specific feeling engendered by a vehicle, the rumble of the motor, the physical appeal of stomping on pedals, and slamming a gear shift around in its pattern. One, older truck I drove for a while, really cool-looking late 50’s Ford? Sensual metal curves, and weak headlights like nipples? That vehicle had to be at a complete stop to drop it into first gear. The old six cylinder had enough low-end torque that it could motor off in second gear, but properly? Complete stationary stop before pulling the steering-mounted gear-shift into first. Nowadays, the cars with chips and lights, bells, whistles, buzzers, warning lights, Bluetooth and wireless WiFi? Just not the same. No personality. No quirks. But that old truck, the older Ford I drove? Had to be at a full stop, stationary, before shifting into first gear. The lesson for Virgo, just a mindful reminder?
Like that old truck?
Full stop before dropping the Virgo into first gear again.
