Year overview, in short: the long form.

Taurus

King of ClubsThe accepted Shakespeare birthday is 4/23 (St. George’s Day) with the myth behind Shakespeare’s birthday being more fun than the actual day itself. But why Shakespeare? The genius, for me, isn’t in studying the plays as a texts, but in listening, watching the plays on a stage. That’s where the magic happens, as the plays are meant to be seen and heard, felt on stage rather than just a flat piece of literature. The emotional impact of the drama is frequently lost if the plays are treated just as a literature. There’s a growing awareness in Taurus, a new way to see old material with fresh eyes. I recently watched a rather dated version of one of the plays, but even in colloquial, historical framing, I saw one character in a new light. Perspectives shift; embrace the show for what it brings in to your Taurus awareness, and yes, happy birthday.

Gemini

Gemini Too often, I watch Gemini merely reacting to certain exigent circumstances instead of carefully plotting a solution. Banda-aids and bandages when thinking through the root cause of the problem would prevent further damages. Yes, we want to immediately staunch the flow of blood, but wouldn’t preventing the injury in the first place be a more effective way to deal with this kind of a situation? The scene was from an action movie, so it’s not real, but the idea carried forward, especially for Gemini.

“If we don’t stop that blood loss, he’ll bleed out in a few minutes.” “I know, but first, why was that there? I don’t want to get hit again.” Think that’s the message, looking before taking action. I mean, to move the plot forward, you have to stop the bleeding, but first, figure out why that was there in the first place.

Cancer

The traditional Sagittarius image I have? There’s a slow, bovine-like attitude, a horse’s face, casually chewing on a mouthful of grass. A placid look, not excited, no anger, not rushed. Most important? Placid in the face of what would excite other signs. It’s more of a caricature rather than a single person, sort of half-horse, half-human, kind of picture. Laconic and slow to get moving? Sure, there is that. In the next few days, for gentle Moon Children, the sign of the crab, Cancer? Embrace that Sagittarius side. I doubt I could even find a pice of straw or grass to chew on, but most places still have toothpicks. Imagine chewing on a toothpick, just a corner of your mouth, slowly rolling it around, not really handling it, but just resting there. “Well, let me see what I can do about this…” Buys time. Buys time that helps make better Cancer decisions. Pretend to be a Sagittarius.

“Well (drawing out the word to three or more syllables), let me just see about that….” Firmly punctuated with hanging ellipses…

The Leo

Ever get that laser-like focus on a single target, a single action, a particular situation where you’re just dead-set sure that you’re right? One hundred percent, no room for equivocation or questions, just absolutely sure that you’re correct? Then, with focus that only The Leo can muster up, attacking that problem, situation, that thing, fixing it, only to discover that you weren’t right? My old dad, dear old dad, he used to mutter, “Belts and suspenders.” I think, “belt and braces” would be better, but not what I recall, just “belt and suspenders,” and it was a reflection to a situation that was being overprotected. Too cautionary. Too much safety, not enough fun. But that idea, reflect back, Leo dear, look back, and you’ll find that the laser-like focus does serve well, but you didn’t have the object in the crosshairs, to confuse the metaphors. You either need a belt or suspenders to keep your pants up, and you only need one. That laser-like focus makes it hard to see other options.

Virgo

My original web page was a black background with white letters. Spooky, redolent in night moves, and suggestive of dark arts, it fit a pattern in my early years. I also had horoscopes that ran about a third less than are now. In the intervening years, I’ve toyed with colors, and what I opt for now is simple clarity. As little as possible between the written word and what the page displays. There are gaffs, mistakes, server errors, and i/o problems, sure. Machines make mistakes. But I’ve opted for minimalist and simplicity as that is better. Higher legibility and less crap that means nothing. Virgo: think of this like a design problem, and think about removing elements. Think about how “Less is more,” to trot out trite expressions. Keeping it simple?

Libra

Saturn, Mars, Mercury, then layer in some nefarious, nebulous Neptune? It’s a big order, and the easiest way I have to offer an avenue with proper Libra results? I was face-to-face with a similar kind of arrangement, and I wasn’t happy about any of it. I meditated for 20 minutes. Timer went off, and I was still pissed. I set it for another 20 minutes. Timer went off, and I was still agitated. I set the timer for another 20 minutes, and when the timer went off, I was still pissed — but I had a better understanding of the underlying dynamics, and what I could — and couldn’t — do. I am not a guru. I am not a holy man. I don’t know anything about anything, but I do know that a form of mediation works for me. Find a form of meditation that works for your Libra self. My own process, as delineated above, is based on Transcendental Meditation, but is a variation on that theme. Adjust as need be, but do what helps. Pause, listen, then pause again.

Scorpio

I can’t remember the first time I was told to “Always carry a pencil and paper.” I do have scattered notes written to myself, and most of those are now in notebooks of various sorts. At one time, I would use any available scrap of paper, too. The post-modern era ushered in digital ink and I’ve used a phone for the last decades, as a replacement for the paper. At one time, I was adamant about only writing the note once, and transferring it to a computer with a word-processing program, so I don’t have to rewrite. That style doesn’t always work, not anymore, not the way I work now, and I’m back to the idea of “Always carry a pencil and paper.” Scorpio: there’s message here, about taking notes, and taking note of changes, and then, being surprised — act surprised — when this comes full circle. Don’t like my suggestion of “Full Circle?” Then always carry a pencil and paper so you can write down how I was wrong.

Sagittarius

This is the beginning. The inkling, this is the little nudge from the dark corners of the Sagittarius brain. Venus will spread an extra layer of hope, and that’s like an extra layer of jam on a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Layer one is bread, layer two is jelly, layer three is peanut butter, then there’s another layer of jelly, then the top piece of bread. Twice as much. Good? Bad? Different flavors like blueberry and strawberry? One Sagittarius brother uses marmalade, orange marmalade on this. I don’t think it works, but he swears by it, combination of tart and sweet, with a peanut butter stick-to-the-roof-of-your-mouth addendum. Don’t be afraid to try something outside of the Sagittarius comfort zone, however that might show up. Me? I’m certainly not putting marmalade on a PB&J, but that’s me.

Capricorn

I’ve heard about putting coco powder in chili. Just a tablespoon in a big pot of my own chili is what I understand was recommended. It’s not something I want to experiment with, being a problem for me. I have a generalized recipe, tweaked, adjusted, and modified over the years, but what I have seems to work well. I opt for a blend of natural seasoning, from various pepper pods, and the meat itself, not a lot of other seasoning goes into my own chili. Besides, it’s not really a closely guarded secret, it’s a matter of what looks good at the time. I used to add a tablespoon of brown sugar, as much an homage to a Scorpio savant mentor, as to help with flavor. That version? With the sugar or the coco powder? Maybe molé-like cacao? I tend to stay away from that, these days. While it’s not something I’ll do, as an aside to Capricorn? Maybe try a seemingly weird ingredient, test it in a small batch, first, see how that works. The planets suggest good, if weird, tastes.

It’s all about cookbook astrology

Aquarius

You know, you really can’t see Uranus with a naked eye? There is some question, perhaps in the darkest of skies, with patient and careful attention, it might be possible to detect the planet’s position, but basically, it’s not a naked-eye type of object in the sky. Just because you can’t see it? The power and presence in a chart is eerily obvious. Strange, too, but that’s not the question here. This is symbolic of the Twins, as well, the sign of Gemini, a flaky yet compatible air elemental. Simple transition, “Weirdness abounds, don’t get too caught in the individual messages.” Weirdness, well, that’s just normal for Aquarius, but the message, with Venus adding a little extra weight? Don’t get caught up in the individual messages, but look for over-arching themes. You’ll be happier. Plus: weirder?

Pisces

The problem with visibility? It will always attract detractors. One of the various side-projects I had, over the years? One of them was just images from deep in the heart of where I lived. I mostly lived in the midst of downtown, and as such, I experienced a curious clash of cultures, from homeless to high-end executive, and one piece of historical lore covered this idea, rather well. That is just one example of the results from the images. Recently, one image came under attack. The actual photo was a bumper sticker, and the tag line for the posting was merely the slogan. But the caught the attention of a copyright holder, and then, that started the e-mail chain. Relax. I’m not in trouble. What I do is perfectly legal, and for that matter, moral. But for a shining moment, my visibility attracted negative commentary. Pisces — the problem with being more visible? More people will leave nasty comments.

Aries

Aries Looking for an answer? There is a persistent tech issue, one where I had a clear image in my mind, and the way to achieve that goal? Should be quite easy, plug it into a search engine, and? Augmented with AI, yielded some answers. I plugged in the answers, just snippets of code, and the answers just generated further questions. The most obvious question was “Why isn’t this working like I think it should?” The trick, to make this work properly, there’s a simple order, and sometimes that order has to be modified. I changed the search terms a little, and looked for a better answer. I changed the terms in relationship to each other, and finally stumbled across the answer, buried on a message board, leftover from a few years prior. But that was where I found the clue to help move this problem into its solution stage. Fixed. All I really had to do, all Aries needs to do? Change the terms around to better reflect those goals and desires.
