Guidance is Internal

There’s a joy that has gone missing. First off, when I started out, I would tape, actual analog magnet media, my readings. Took some toying with hardware and software, but I managed to link a phone microphone to a landline. Did that for years. Shifted to burning a CD, as the tech became quicker, easier, more advanced.

Eventually, shifted to recording just on the phone, and even that became too burdensome. What I do now? Nothing. See the shop link for payment options.

I bought new watchband the other day, and this is the second or third time I’ve purchased from this company. It’s a small, I’d guess “mom and pop” outfit, from the correspondence, and personal touch. Package arrived a few weeks late, problems with the business, and I am very forgiving, as I understand the whims of the fates themselves.

What it reminded me of, more than anything else, the same joy and weirdness coefficient I used to employ in my own packaging. When I would mail off a tape or later, a CD, I tended to include charts, and maybe something strange about the packaging.

The watchband is fine, a tad pricey, but then, it’s also just unusual enough to set it apart from anything else, and, it’s from a micro-business, not just a small business but a micro arrangement, be my guess. Still cool. Still way cool, and the cross between outlandish, and space-inspired thrills me.

The term itself, “Guidance is Internal” carries special meaning for me. It’s, like, okay, sort of, a zen-thing? It also suggests, to me, that we can plot our own course, for good or for ill. Walt Whitman maybe?

It amuses me, and I like carrying that message on my wrist, so I can be reminded should I forget.

The packaging itself, the material, the stickers, all of that points to the little joy in making it odd again — a personal touch frequently lacking in today’s world.
