Virgo

Old neighborhood, place I used to live? There was a series of traffic calming “road humps,” speed bumps to some, sleeping policemen, in one native tongue, and otherwise, just inconvenient asphalt mounds in the roads to slow the hurried pace. But this particular stretch or road, there were three or four sets of the bumps, then one place where a crosswalk was painted like the humps, but no hump. The yellow warning sign, the painted stripes in the road, and I always had an involuntary reaction to slow down. Might’ve been designed that way, might be a happy accident, but I always suspected it was street designer’s idea, just another traffic calming measure. Up ahead, for Virgo, there’s a similar kind of impediment, real — or imagined — but it looks real. It’s designed to slow you down. Should you slow down? Might be a good idea, even if the cause isn’t really a feature that is designed to slow you down.

Libra

It was a snippet left over from a Labor Day weekend. Two young females, maybe 18 or 20 years old, I first noticed one, slaloming through holiday traffic. She was casually city confident, assured with her moves, long brown hair rippling behind her, youthful merriment dancing in her eyes. Her long board, what it was to me, but her board had cutouts for the wheels, some kind of an urban modification, designed to accommodate the mean city streets.

Another young female followed, they circled the block, and tucked their boards under arm to walk into the place I was sitting, then tossed the boards into a booth, long enough to order at the counter. It was subtle city joy, inner-city, holiday merriment, riding sidewalk surfers to get a slice. Simple vignette in a world gone crazy. Libra: take a beat, take a moment, take a pause from the cause, take second to either partake or observe, but take that break.

Scorpio

I use this one a frequently. It’s useful like that. I found an engraving place that would etch a custom quote or comment on a trinket or small stone, in this case. I had the word “not” engraved on a stone. Used it before, and as an office trinket with deep, metaphysical implications, it carries extra weight for Scorpio. Imagine, the word, “not” engraved on a stone. You get the joke, right? Kind of a visual type of irony? But carrying this even further? As a trinket for this week’s Scorpio? “Not” engraved on stone. “So it’s not engraved in stone?” Exactly. What that means? It will change before the full moon arrives.

Sagittarius

One of the most important lessons I’ve had, in astrology? The boundaries between the houses, the astrological houses. One of the formative lessons, an early mentor taught that the lines were like solid, black lines, carefully delineating different areas of a chart, and thereby, carefully delineating different areas of a life. Hard and fast rules, according to that early teacher. In subsequent study, though, I found another author who suggested the lines were grey and fuzzy, not hard and distinct. The cardinal points in a chart were set, but the lines in between varied. Couple of different influences, fleeting, but also stubbornly resolute. That means? Sagittarius runs into boundaries that, points that delineate specific containers of information, and of those? Those boundaries, those lines, that mental fencing to contain the data sets? Are they hard and fast, or are they somewhat mutable? “I think I can fudge a little on this one.” Can you?

Capricorn

There are simple solutions to complex (Capricorn) concerns. Simple solutions are better than complex answers. No, stop and think about it. Someone launches into a long answer when a simple “Yes” or “no” would suffice? That’s a clear example. Or one of those even longer reasons why this — and that — are conspiring to create a situation that is untenable, and therefore, “Not my fault, as you can clearly see…” With the use of the ellipses at the end, a leading point that there is a drawn-out answer when simpler solution would suffice. There’s a requirement, now, an artificial constraint placed upon your Capricorn self, and that is to keep this simple. If you find yourself launching into a long narrative thread that is more of an excuse rather than an answer? Should be the clue. “No, you don’t understand, see, there was this — and that — conspiring to make this other thing…”

Aquarius

A little bit of preparation goes along way towards making life easier in Aquarius. That preparation is called for, even now. This might be big stuff, or it might be small things. Varies from individual to individual, but the idea is what is etched out by the stars: a little preparation goes a long way towards making life easier for Aquarius. I’ve got a set of fishing poles, tackle, gear and so forth, sitting in a pile, ready to go. Never know when I might be able to sneak off and fish for a weekend. My example of a little bit of preparation? I’ll sort through that gear. There was a freshwater lure I used at the coast, started to rust. Toss it. There’s a sealed bag of plastic-like bait that has hardened beyond recognition, toss it, too. Grab a clean oily rag and wipe down the reels. Pisces

There is a title of book, been in my “I want to read this book,” list for years, and looking at the publication date? Been there for two or three years, at least. Not exactly Shakespeare scholarship, but as an adjunct, sure. Digital library didn’t have it. Second local (digital) library. Barnes and Nobles has it, but not locally, and at a price. In desperation, I looked on amazon, hardback, showed available, a dollar cheaper. Then, inspired, I looked on Half-Price Books. They had a copy, but factoring in shipping? That proved to be higher than my current zone allowed. Used books are frequently way more interesting if there are stray bits still tucked into the text, or margin notes. I even chased down a separate web search, to no avail. This was shipping for single text, and frankly, I think I want to read it as a library book, first, to make sure it’s something I want to keep. No luck. Spent half an hour, poking around on various sites that had books for sale, only to buy nothing. There are days when the pursuit is more important than the point of the chase.

Aries

There’s a modern, post-modern, post-post-modern problem, only seen in our current world. It’s the “reset password” loop. “Do you want us to send a password reset link?” Yes. click on the link. “Do you want to use a strong password?” Yes, obviously. Reset the password. Try to log back in, “Password not valid, would you like to reset your password?” It’s a problem, and it can be ultimately frustrating. What I discovered, the other morning? I don’t need to do this before I’ve had coffee. I clicked in the wrong place, acted too hurriedly, saved a new password over the updated password, and the results were minor frustrations on my own part. But Taurus? Gentle Taurus? What is the best way forward? In my example, not what I did, but in my example? The best action is to get properly caffeinated then proceed with the process. In an unawakened state? All I did was get more confused, and short-tempered with the process.

Taurus

Over the years, I’ve employed a number of different methods for journaling. What worked, recently, was merely a small notebook with a single page dedicated to each day. Then, on that page, under the date, there would be a variety of my own, crudely drawn icons to represent what happened. If there was a phone consultation or two, three maybe? I would have a headset symbol, and then the glyphs for the various signs I talked with. Long walk? I would include a stick figure walking. Just notes, to myself, about what, when, and possibly where a daily event occurred. This is a record for me, not for publication, although, from time to time, the images have been included online. But it’s reminder for myself, more than anything else. Likewise, for gentle Taurus? There’s a gentle reminder, for yourself, that you want. Crap from the previous days, left unattended? Want to remember to tackle that, first.

Gemini

There was a buzz word, goes back a decade or more, but the phrase, then? “Reframe the statement.” Likewise, harkening back to what I’ve heard before, looking ahead for gentle Gemini? “Reframe the question.” For Gemini, since you don’t understand the answer, or what it might mean? It’s about looking at the issue, the problem, the challenges that lie ahead? It’s about looking at them from a different perspective. “Can you rephrase?” Exactly what I’m talking about! “I don’t get your meaning, can you say that in a way I understand?” Perfect! You get it now! “Can you reframe that question?” See how easy it is, just look at the challenges, what might lie ahead, look at from a different perspective. Just “reframe the statement.” Or the original interrogative.

Cancer

Trivia. Trivial pursuits. Seemingly mindless, unnecessary boring details. The stuff where the archetypical Virgo lives? That’s what this is about. Details, almost mindlessly boring details, unimportant in themselves? That’s the secret to using this energy correctly. Get lost in the details. Get confounded by the stunning array of detailed matters that require your copious Cancer attention. The Moon Children can latch onto a detail, and with that single, crab-like claw? Refuse to let go. In the details, there’s a kind of chaos, and in that chaos, there’s a kind of order. In that order that lives in the apparent chaos? That’s the answer to the how to move ahead. Look after the details. Look after the details that are stacked upon details, and as soon as you fix one tiny piece, a smaller, adjacent issue breaks open. What’s that expression?

The Leo

“Place your bets.” Simple way to see this one, it’s a situation where you have to play what’s there, have to play your hand, have to let the chips fall where they may. Easiest way to find out? Call the bluff. With Jupiter in residence, there’s a variety of gambling terms that apply, and while I’m not much on gambling, taking a chance, putting it out there, just doing something — anything — helps. Moves us along, but most important? It moves The Leo forward, and that’s all that matters. Right? Place the bet, take a chance, give in to the urge, and see what happens. Should be good. I can’t guarantee a win, but if this does pay off as big as it should? I would like a small percentage. It’s the least you can do, right? Just go for it, let the chips fall where they may. As one of my literary heros would intone, “Buy the ticket; take the ride.”
